The ever-increasing popularity of lithium-ion, Tesla, Rivian, and other batteries has exposed many businesses to significant risks of HAZMAT contamination in the form of heavy metal runoff, battery fires, PFAS (“Forever Chemicals”), and corrosive chemical discharge. Small battery fires or leaks can mushroom into chemical leachate buildup into the ground, leading to contaminated soil problems that must be sampled, stabilized or encapsulated, profiled, excavated, and removed with HAZMAT manifesting. Others can cause chemical pollution via stormwater runoff into storm inlets and waterways, which exposes you and businesses to Water Board citations or worse.

Mayfield provides all these services. We are experts in fire debris removal and were the first in the Palisades/Eaton Fire disaster of 2025 to provide EPA-equivalent Phase 1 HAZMAT clearance for vehicle and lithium battery fires. Battery fire cleanup involves a combination of solutions ranging from HAZMAT containment, to pressure washing, to HEPA vacuuming ash/soot residues, to bead/soda/dry ice blasting to remove surface contaminants and corrosive chemical buildup, to manifesting for battery disposal at a HAZMAT Landfill via a proper chain of custody.

Don’t rely on Restoration “cleaning crews.” Restoration guys do not even require contractors licenses in California and have no experience with the HAZMAT and chemistry knowledge needed to tackle battery fire cleanups. All our men are 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certified, fit-tested for respirators and Tyvek chemical suits, and more to get the job done properly.
