We are California MBE/DBE General Engineering contractors licensed for work in all hazardous environments for all HAZMAT and heavy metals/carcinogen remediation services at all levels, be it Public Works, Federal/Tribal, police/DEA, commercial or residential.
We were among the first contractors on the ground for the Pacific Palisades/Eaton Fire disaster cleanups and fire debris removal, land clearing, wildfire prevention, EPA Phase 1-equivalent HAZMAT clearances, ash/soot decontamination, and more. We often helped with post-fire asset/valuable recovery to search through fire debris for your possessions and personal items. We also do post-Army Corp soil scraping to further decontaminate properties that are inadequately cleared
In recent years, homeowners, law firms, and environmental groups have raised significant lawsuits of potential pollution byproducts from firefighting foam. Most prominent is B-type foam called AFFF (Aqueous Film-Forming Foam). While extremely effective at fire suppression, many extinguishers and fire foams leave significant buildups of PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) or “Forever Chemicals“.
PFAS chemicals are being regulated so quickly and sloppily by California that even environmental companies don’t even know how to tackle the proper procedures quickly enough. This leaves homeowners with unknown health risks and businesses/landlords with unknown liability exposure. What we do know is that Fire Foam/AFFF, PFAS, microplastics, and similar “Forever Chemicals” can cause significant airborne inhalation hazards to families, bioaccumulation risks through skin to children, are a significant impact on California’s waterways and storm sewer systems.
This means that many families are using our services for indoor PFAS sampling, outdoor PFAS soil sampling, PFAS water quality testing, and fire foam/AFFF cleanup and remediation after the disaster has settled. This entails a combination of setting up closed-air containment spaces, negative pressure machines, HEPA vacuuming, defoaming agents, deep cleaning and wet wiping, and more.
Furthermore, we want to protect you from *Industrial Hygienists’ scams* during disaster fires. While we happily work with and respect many Hygienists, most clients do not realize that hygienists widely profit off of victims’ vulnerable positions, charging often 2-6x the genuine value of their services, doing up to tens of thousands of dollars in unnecessary or irrelevant testing, terrifying homeowners with “urgent” remediation, putting their homes and insurance in “red-tag” situations from which they can’t escape. Do NOT rely on Hygienists: they have little to no training in HAZMAT and have no licenses or legal ability to actually remediate.
Unlike Industrial Hygienists, Mayfield will provide HAZMAT Engineers to interpret your metrics, do the testing that is RELEVANT to your situation, and encourage you NOT to sample or pay what doesn’t help you return home safely. We don’t profit from lab costs, so why should hygienists?
